Professional Resume

Recent Work Experience

During my junior and senior year of undergrad at UW-Madison (May 2021 – May 2023), I had the privilege to work as a member of the Research Cyberinfrastructure (RCI) team, a small group of IT professionals within the university’s Division of Information Technology.

As an RCI assistant, it was my duty to provide administrative backend support, compile and analyze usage data, document processes, and consult on policy decisions for RCI services, which support hundreds of researchers spanning 1.3B annual research dollars. Here are some of the skills I used every day during my time as RCI assistant.

Visualization

I have an aptitude for prototyping tools like Figma, and data visualization tools like Looker Studio.

Administration

I'm always dialed in on server metrics, account provisioning, and technical support.

Task Management

Providing detailed, concise, and effective documentation is my bread and butter.

Communication

I keep things relevant, professional, and cordial in my communications, taking into account any knowledge gaps.

Research Cyberinfrastructure (RCI) Projects

In the following section I will highlight some of the specific projects I contributed to during my time with RCI.

01

2022

Usage Metrics Data Cleaning

I wrote a Python executable to take an input Excel file (monthly auto-generated user metrics reports for Globus), clean up relevant rows/columns according to reporting needs, and output a new, more readable version, mostly by use of the pandas library.

Through this project I practiced working with data frames, file I/O, and managing requirements and expectations according to a delivery timeline.

02

2022-2023

AI/Machine Learning Project

This was a bigger project, where I analyzed 100 support requests for ResearchDrive, a UW-Madison storage solution for researchers. This task consisted of:

1. Data-wrangling support tickets through the university’s Cherwell-based ticketing system
2. Creating labels and schema according to support request types/categories (e.g. “add/remove collaborator(s)”)
3. Applying labels to ticket IDs in Excel
4. Writing a detailed codebook with reproducibility as a top priority
5. Providing debugging advice for a Python-based NLP Machine Learning algorithm written in a Jupyter environment

Through this project I practiced working with nuanced data, collaborative coding, and documentation.

03

2021-2023

Operational Support

This was my most extensive and ongoing project. I performed various administrative tasks for the UW-Madison RStudio/Posit pilot program for researchers. Some of my duties performed were:

1. Linux support/administration and account provisioning
      – Checking server health and metrics
      – Restarting/rebooting server
      – Managing user profiles, attributes, groups in the server
      – Installing/updating packages and dependencies
2. Data-wrangling usage data via SQL (on BigQuery), Postman API, built-in metrics
3. Planning and creating policies for the future of the service(s)
4. Email communication with researchers
5. Creating tutorials for account provisioning and various administrative tasks

Through this project I practiced working in a shell environment, communicating with researchers of all levels of technical literacy, and analyzing minute details and applying them when making big-picture decisions.

04

2021-2023

Reporting/Documentation

This project spanned several other projects as a sort of meta-project. In summation, I created and maintained metrics reports and process documentation for the various RCI service offerings. This included:

1. Generating Google Data Studio (now called Looker Studio) visualizations
2. Writing detailed process documentation as .md documents on the university’s GitLab instance
3. Sharing and presenting with individuals and groups across campus

Through this project I practiced working with data visualization tools and practices, quantifying user stories, and forming and explaining analyses of data at various levels of abstraction.

Additional Work Experience

Along with my two years with RCI, I have worked a variety of part-time hourly jobs over the years, listed here by recency descending:

Aug 2023 - Mar 2024 / River Falls, WI
Domino's Pizza Delivery Driver

This was a fun job. I was basically paid to practice driving manual in a variety of traffic situations, got free food almost every shift, and walked away with an easy pizza man costume for Halloweens to come.

Oct 2021 - Jan 2022 / Madison, WI
Shelver/Patron Assistant

This job took place in Memorial Library at UW-Madison, and my duties included retrieving and returning borrowed materials from large mechanical bookshelves, becoming fluent in the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system, and generating call sheets in Excel.

Nov 2020 - Oct 2021 / Madison, WI
Student Custodial Supervisor

This job was based in Dejope Residence Hall at UW-Madison, though my jurisdiction covered Bradley and Phillips Residence Halls as well. My duties included scheduling student custodians, delegating tasks, radio/email/phone communication, cleaning, organizing and hosting events, and running budget calculations/analysis in Excel.

Aug 2019 - Nov 2020 / Madison, WI
Student Custodian

This job was based in Dejope Residence Hall at UW-Madison, though my jurisdiction covered Bradley and Phillips Residence Halls as well. My duties included radio/email/phone communication and cleaning. This was my first job at UW-Madison, and it allowed me to move into my dorm before all the other first-year students!
